We travelled by public buses, we never bought tickets in advance. Just for the train from Ella to Kandy (or Ella to Nanu Oya (the station if you want to go to Nuwara Elya)) we bought tickets 2 days in advance. We didn’t travel by minivan from Arugam bay to Colombo, as we returned to Ella, but saw this option and thought we have to remember it for the next time.
