Skicircus for families

Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn is one of the biggest ski resorts in Austria situated directly on the border between Salzburg and Tyrol. With its 270 kilometres of slopes everyone can knock themselves out – ski maniacs can test their endurance doing The Challenge, free riders can devour as much powder as they please, freestyle skiers and snowboarders can shred one of their parks, weekend skiers can participate in the infamous apres ski. But the Skicircus is also a perfect destination for families. We don’t have kids of our own yet, but because most of our friends have children by now (and we hope that we can persuade them to come with us next time), we decided to write our very first “family friendly” article. 😊

That being said, where is everyone going to have fun, parents and kids? In our opinion, the Skicircus is an ideal choice for families. Activities children will enjoy (I know that we would if we would still be going on holidays with our parents):

  • Skiing

The Skicircus has many beginner slopes for beginners and children, they call them »Übungslift«.They are usually set apart from the main skiing area. They are very flat with easy magic carpets to stand on for children.

They also offer very good ski teachers (we have never heard so many languages in a ski school) – private or in groups.

  • Tobogganing (Timock’s coaster in Fieberbrunn)

There’s a steel toboggan called Timock’s coaster in Fieberbrunn, where your ski lift ticket is your entrance ticket. It’s great fun, go check it out when you’re there. It is open year-round.

  • Llama trekking

On a typical Austrian homestead In Fieberbrunn, live 3 llamas, which will be happy to go on a walk with you. They are super fluffy and nice, although their face expressions are quite serious. Attention: your children might want to have one at home (at least that’s what happened to me, and now I have two stuffed llamas on the couch 😊)

  • Sleigh ride

It probably can’t get more traditional than this: wooden sleigh pulled by one or two horses through a winter wonderland. There is probably not a single child out there who wouldn’t want to ride on a carriage. This makes sleigh ride a perfect family activity.

  • Sledding

If you don’t know how to ski or snowboard (yet), I am pretty sure you know how to ride on a sled. Kids make an excellent excuse to do something so childish. You can go on a sled ride in Saalbach where you can combine it with a traditional dinner. After you have gained some skill you can try out the track at the Reiterkogelbahn. You can rent the sleds there.

  • Walking trails

Through the entire valley of the river Glemm you can find marked walking trails suitable for families. Along the way you can stop and warm up at many different restaurants.

  • Treetop trail

At the end of the valley (Talschluss) there is a park with 200 metres long and 42 metres high suspension bridge called Golden Gate. This area is a typical example of an alpine landscape. You can combine it with a sleigh ride in Tallschluss.

So, what do you say? Show me a kid that wouldn’t want to go on holiday like this? For all the mummies and daddies who want something more, here is our article about our 10 favorite activities in the Skicircus.

We come back every year, who is with us next time? 😉
